What is The Dark Night of The Soul? Are You Going Through It?

If you’re reading this, it’s likely that you’re going through a challenging time in your life. Perhaps you’re feeling lost, alone, and disconnected from your sense of purpose and meaning in life. Maybe you’re experiencing a deep sense of grief or emptiness that you can’t quite put into words. Is it a dark night of the soul?
The term “dark night of the soul” originated with the 16th-century Spanish mystic St. John of the Cross, who wrote a poem describing his own experience of profound spiritual crisis. In this poem, he describes a state of spiritual emptiness and desolation that he called “la noche oscura del alma,” or the dark night of the soul.
While St. John’s experience was rooted in his religious faith, the concept of the dark night of the soul has since been embraced by spiritual seekers of all faiths and traditions. It’s a time of deep questioning, uncertainty, and transformation, and it can be incredibly challenging to navigate alone.
